my history with mexico was and still is complicated, but for the first time, it truly felt grounded.
07.24.25 - the appreciation of everyday items and people
over the past couple of years, with the help of therapy and the full development of my frontal lobe, i’ve come to acknowledge the value in the items and people i interact with every day (or every other day). this has been a significant part of my personal growth. while some people may have adopted this practice of appreciation at a much younger age, for me, the road to get there was more winding.
i’ll start with the people in my life—in no particular order—such as my boyfriend of almost seven years, who has shown me that life doesn’t always have to be so serious and that there are perspectives beyond my own. then there's my only sibling, the purveyor of reason, whose approach to life is unrestrained and honest, though misunderstood by some. my mom, a hopeless romantic with a sailor’s mouth, and my dad, a calm man with countless stories from his many years on this earth. my roommate and best friend, the embodiment of zen. and finally, my co-workers—wise women who are veterans in the field i currently work in.

now onto the items that make my life easier—my wallet, which carries my bus pass and identification card. although it can really only hold two cards at once, i still appreciate what it does. my earbuds, a constant in my life that i can’t live without, keeping the music flowing and my heart happy. then there are my various keys, constantly changing as i move to different neighborhoods; they let me into the sanctuary of my home. my lip moisturizer—you have never let me down, especially on dry days. and my phone—although i try to keep my distance from it as i grow older, it has worked side by side with me in emergencies, taken me to new places, and kept my digital library tidy.
